Michelle L. Hawes, DNP, RN, CRNI, VA-BC
Nationally respected for her knowledge of infusion therapy and vascular access, Mickey has chaired and been a member of multiple committees for the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) and the Infusion Nurses Society (INS). Mickey has enjoyed presenting and networking at multiple local and national conferences for AVA, INS, and Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers (AVIR). Dr. Hawes is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Association for Vascular Access and manages AVA's online newsletter, Intravascular Quarterly. She holds a BS in Biology and Chemistry Education from the University of Iowa, a BSN from the University of North Alabama, an MSN from Indiana Wesleyan University, and DNP from the University of Southern Indiana. Prior to becoming specialized in vascular access Mickey completed an initial period on an adult medical surgical unit and then transitioned to pediatrics including pediatric intensive care units and emergency rooms designated for children. Some early years were spent in home infusion for both pediatrics and adults. The last 20 years have been spent leading and developing vascular access teams at multiple hospitals in Indiana. After receiving her doctorate in nursing practice Mickey began Data to Wisdom Research Consulting to assist healthcare professionals in moving their piles of data through the research process to publication. Dr. Hawes engages with product engineers to develop vascular access products that will benefit patients in all populations. Her work includes supporting both investigators and manufacturers in initiating retrospective and prospective post-market studies, always focusing on the most important goal, improving the outcomes for patients.
