Dr Peter J. Carr PhD, MMedSc, BSc RN, is a vascular access clinician and academic researcher focusing on improving patient outcomes with intravenous catheters. Dr Carr marries over 20 years of clinical experience with vascular access and infusion therapy. He leads a clinical research program focusing on reducing insertion and post-insertion failure rates of vascular access devices. He completed his PhD with the AVATAR group developing a clinical prediction model to improve peripheral intravenous catheter first-attempt success and reducing post insertion failure. He is an advocate for better clinical trial design in vascular access and the importance of better evidence for vascular access devices and technologies. Dr Carr works for the University of Galway where he is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. He collaborates with leading international agencies to improve vascular access outcomes.
