Online Didactic (Prior to arrival) – Lecture – Hands-On Mentoring & Practice, Competency Assessment/Validation (Optional)
Earn 4 CE’s while enhancing your ultrasound skills. The concepts taught in the USGPIV course will not only increase your knowledge and skill for USGPIV insertion but will enhance your overall Ultrasound skills for all insertions. Prior to conference, you will be given access and complete the 3-hour didactic. Course completion and a passing score on the knowledge examination is required prior to attending the in-person pre-conference class. At conference, you will attend a 60-minute lecture, followed by 1-3 hours on hands-on proctoring. When you feel you are proficient, you are invited to competency assessment. After successfully passing competency assessment, you will receive a certificate of competency in Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion from the Association for Vascular Access.

Workshop attendees will receive instructions via email on how to access the online didactic component through AVA Academy in August and will have through October 2nd to complete. Refunds will not be given to those who do not complete the didactic instruction by October 2nd and will not be given access to attend the hands-on workshop at the AVA conference.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the components of a comprehensive vascular assessment for device insertion using ultrasound.
  • Develop/enhance ultrasound guided insertion techniques for vascular access device insertion.
  • Acknowledge appropriate aseptic technique for ultrasound guided device insertions.
