Registrants for this workshop are invited to a Pediatric-Neonatal Reception from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. The reception is included with your workshop registration.

Recommended clinical experience: Proficiency in neonatal and pediatric PICC insertion (i.e., USG, MST, needle over sheath)

In this two-part didactic, attendees will develop advanced knowledge related to neonatal and pediatric PICC insertion. Prior to the conference, attendees will receive comprehensive material with supplementary video modules; attendees will be required to complete a pre-test and achieve at least 80% on a post-test. Program material will guide the clinician in learning the advanced technical process for PICC insertion in populations with comorbid conditions and complex clinical presentations. In the hands on pre-conference, each attendee will rotate through guided procedural skills stations focused on advanced utilization of ultrasound, modified Seldinger technique in neonates, and mid-thigh femoral insertion. Additionally, the clinician will explore various troubleshooting techniques in complex patients to achieve central tip location at the bedside in conjunction with the use of ECG technology for preliminary tip confirmation. 

Workshop attendees will receive instructions via email on how to access the online didactic component through AVA Academy in August and will have through October 2nd to complete. Refunds will not be given to those who do not complete the didactic instruction by October 2nd and will not be given access to attend the hands-on workshop at the AVA conference.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify appropriate vessel selection and technique for advanced neonatal and pediatric PICC insertion.
  • Integrate complex procedural troubleshooting techniques for successful bedside PICC insertion.
  • Apply advanced ultrasound techniques to access challenging vasculature in the neonatal and pediatric population.
  • Outline the steps of MST for neonatal PICC insertion.
  • Discuss the use of ECG technology in an upper extremity approach for PICC insertion in the neonatal and pediatric population.
