One in three PIVs are inserted in ED. We set up a program to capture ED clinicians' current PIVC insertion, maintenance and removal practice in Australia. We will present the findings from a national survey, bedside audits and staff interviews. Some suboptimal practices were observed and reported by clinicians. A range of barriers prevents ED clinicians from adhering to the best evidence and strategies to overcome the barriers will be shared with audients. The session will provide some insight to clinicians and researchers who are interested to overcome barriers and achieve better practice in complex and dynamic clinical settings like EDs.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, the participants will understand the current PIV practice and challenges in the ED environment.
Identify the barriers preventing ED clinicians from the best evidence-based practice.
By the end of the session, the participants will be able to understand the strategies for promoting better adherence to the best evidence-based practice.
