The content of this presentation includes a definition and discussion regarding healthcare inequity focusing on intravenous access. After receiving the grant associated with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Award for Innovation our hospital decided to focus on this inequity by providing infrared light to all of our nurses to assist with phlebotomy and peripheral intravenous access from the NICU to the ICU in an urban 700 bed trauma center. Pre implementation and post implementation data will be presented including discussion surrounding the training for implementation. Interviews from both the patients and nursing staff will be shared discussing healthcare inequity and the impact of infrared technology for peripheral phlebotomy and intravenous access for all patient populations.
Learning Objectives:
Define healthcare equity and how it applies to vascular access.
By the end of this presentation the participant will be able to describe the universality of applying infrared vein finding technology on all patients.
Take away a healthcare initiative aimed at providing improved vascular access care for all patient populations.
The participant will be able to present the concept that providing added technology to front line clinicians expands the reach of their vascular access program.
The participant will be able to fully understand the concept of NO BLIND STICKS!
