I'm very excited to provide a lecture on this topic of advanced USG PIV education - one that has been in continuous development for over a decade of insertions and workshops. These techniques should be able to help the vascular access specialist advance to the 95% success rate for USG PIV insertion. Some of the USG PIV insertion techniques include how to handle: contracted patients, developmentally delayed patients, non-upper extremity insertion, obstructed veins, radial vein insertion, non-compliant patients, multiple existing PIVs, countermeasures for the toughest depth insertions, how to more successfully thread (when needed), patients with high risk dislodgement, labs draws and blood cultures, power injection and bolus infusions.
Learning Objectives:
Define 3 or more insertion advanced complications for DVA patients.
Describe 3 or more countermeasures for advanced DVA patient USG PIV insertion complications.
Create a personal plan to address most difficult USG PIV insertions.
