The presenters will discuss their own experiences in research capacity building and creating cross-cultural research networks, and provide concrete examples from their most recent collaboration: the Vascular Access Catheter Use in Latin America (VASCULAR) study. The presenters will describe the steps of the research process, including planning, conducting the study, collecting data, analyzing data, and writing up the results. Challenges and helpful strategies for collaborative research will be discussed and audience participation will be encouraged.

Learning Objectives:

Evaluate the benefits of benchmarking vascular access practice with national and international facilities.
Discuss how research networks can support individuals and organizations to develop and strengthen their vascular access research skills.
Propose steps for developing innovative strategies to engage nurses in future vascular access research projects that will promote excellence in patient care.
Identify tactics for overcoming potential barriers to cross-cultural vascular access research.
