The panel will discuss trending topics related to peripheral IV’s and care delivery including health equity,
public policy and programs to improve care. They will describe the problem of colorism of care and how
it directly relates to vascular access. Information will be shared on research related to health equity and
PIVC care both from the patient and healthcare provider perspectives. Infection prevention updates will
include advocacy efforts and proposed measures at regulatory levels and potential impacts as it relates
to PIVCs. The PIVC Curriculum was launched to healthcare schools in 2022. An update report will be
provided on the impact of the program in the first year. Lastly the panel will provide information on
collaborative work to create improved US public policy impacting PIVCs.
This presentation represents the third annual Peripheral Intravenous Catheter (PIVC) performance and
accountability report. The goal is to create information transparency as it relates to the most common
invasive procedure in healthcare, the PIVC, specifically key topics and trends in care. The panel
represents expertise and researchers from healthcare and med/tech organizations, the American Nurses
Association, and the Association for Vascular Access.
